Hope That Leads To REAL Change

Ask any liberal about America's history and you inevitably get the same response: Columbus's genocide, slavery, massacre of Native Americans, Jim Crow, rampant racism. If you listen to this narrative, the only conclusion you can draw is that America is worse than Hitler's Germany! Of course this isn't true. The sad fact is, this dismal version of America is what is being taught to the next generation.

It is up to those of us who remember the true America, to tell the youth what America really is. Most of the horrible events in U.S. history that liberals love to repeat are absolutely true. Slavery, murder of Native Americans, etc. There is no denying it. However, what liberals refuse to speak about is America's tremendous achievements. Our shared history has much more light than darkness. Liberals want to make you believe America is perpetually stuck at midnight. Simply put, liberals are nocturnal. They never see the beauty of America in the daylight.

Why is this? Liberals use this shared sense of shame as a unifying principle. They love to shackle others to this dismal vision of our country. What they fail to realize is this view, this prejudice, is doomed. Lies always crumble when struck by truth. Like a house of cards, the evil America myth falls in a light breeze of truth.

What is America really?

On September 12, 1962, at a speech at Rice University, John F. Kennedy said,"We choose to go to the moon in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy but because they are hard, because that goal will serve to organize and measure the best of our energies and skills, because that challenge is one that we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone, and one which we intend to win..." On July 20th, 1969, America landed the first man on the Moon - Apollo 11.

This is America!

On June 6th, 1944, General Dwight Eisenhower issued a message to the American soldiers about to land in Nazi occupied france, "You are about to embark upon the Great Crusade towards which we have striven these many months. The eyes of the world are upon you. The hopes and prayers of liberty loving people everywhere march with you... I have full confidence in your courage, devotion to duty and skill in battle. We will accept nothing less than full victory!"

On May 7th, 1945, Germany signed a total and unconditional surrender. Europe was liberated.

This is America!

In September 1861 - the year the Civil War began - Frederick Douglass wrote, "Why does the government reject the negro? Is he not a man? Can he not wield a sword, fire a gun, march and counter march, and obey orders like any other? Is there the least reason to believe that a regiment of well drilled Negros would deport themselves less soldierly-like on that battlefield than the raw troops gathered up generally from the towns and cities of the state of New York? We do not believe that such soldiers, if allowed to take up arms in defense of the government, and made to feel that they are here after to be recognized as persons having rights, would set the highest example of order and general good behavior to their fellow soldiers, and in every way add to the national power." On April 9th, 1865, the Union Army, whose ranks included several recently freed blacks, accepted General Lee's surrender - ending the Civil War.

This is America!

On September 22nd, 1776, an American soldier - Nathan Hale - was captured by the British Army in New York - while on an intelligence gathering mission. Per the standards of the time, it was decided, by the British, to hang Nathan Hale as a spy. Before his death, a composed Hale last words were, "I only regret that I have but one life to lose my country."

On October 19th, 1781, British General Cornwallis surrendered his army to American forces at Yorktown. This victory cemented the creation of the United States and validated the sacrifices made by men like Nathan Hale.

This is America!

In America, hope leads to REAL change. Not in the sense of Obama's empty platitudes. But in the sense of faith in the greatness of America and in the hope of making it better.

In 1776 Nathan Hale hoped for the creation of an independent America. His, and many others sacrifice, led to the creation of the United States.

In 1861, Frederick Douglass hoped African Americans would be allowed to fight with white soldiers of the Union against the Confederacy. This hope eventually led to the Emancipation Proclamation - the freeing of all slaves. The struggle of the Union Army also led to the downfall of the Confederacy.

In 1944, General Eisenhower's invasion message hoped for a free Europe, with Nazi tyranny banished from the earth forever. This led to the end of the most destructive and bloody war in history.

In 1962, Kennedy hoped the United States would land the first man on the Moon. This endeavor led to an explosion in technology that launched the U.S. to the pinnacle of aerospace achievement. Plus, ensuring the first flag planted on the moon was American.

These are just a small sample of American hope, that led to positive change. Not like the empty slogans Obama and his supporters constantly proclaim. America's past is not perfect. But, it's vastly different than the repressive blood-soaked state the vast majority of "progressives" constantly rattle on about.

The left and the right can come together and have meaningful debates on policy. However, these exchanges are not possible when each side view of our shared nation is so vastly different. For the Liberals, I have one question:

How can you know what is best for this nation, when you hate it so much?
